Cardio? Are they kidding me?Nov 09, 2009 I purchased this DVD looking for a fun, challenging work out. What I got instead was an annoyingly hard to follow dance number that didn't even make me break a sweat. I could have burned more calories cleaning my house.
I am in my mid-twenties and hit the gym about three times a week for 45 minutes of cardio. I would rate my fitness level pretty average so I think for the average person, this DVD provides little to no cardio workout.
Excellent, Enjoyable Workout.Sep 12, 2009 This DVD is effective, fun and charming. Though it might be difficult at first for those who are unfamiliar with basic dance steps--and some are not broken down as thoroughly as they might be--the sheer repetition will eventually get the moves into your body. The user may customize the workouts with favorite routines or follow the complete menu. I use it six times a week and in two weeks have lost an inch off my waist, and about three lbs. of body fat. I recommend it for those who want something beyond the basic cardio videos.
great fun!Sep 11, 2009 Actually I wanted to give it 4 1/2 stars. This is really a great way to work out - especially if you have some dance experience. This video, unlike the second, is more challenging and I believe more real. The instructors are obviously having fun and letting there hair down. The steps are a natural progression to honest dancing. Since you would own the copy, you can get more and more of the steps down as you repeat the workout, and it does not dull. The bonus challenge at the end will keep me coming back time and time again.
So dissapointing - waste of timeSep 09, 2009 I was looking for a cardio workout to do in the mornings to replace my running, since it is getting too dark outside to go out by myself. I saw this at Target and i was on the fence buying it (I usually like to read the reviews before buying something). I ended up getting it because of the dancing and the cardio. Man was that a mistake!
1) the steps are hard to follow - it was very frustrating, many times i considered turning it off. a) they don't do any instructing, they just do it. in my experience with videos, a good instructor will count you in, for example, "in four we will add a kick with the right leg to the side. one... two..." etc. These instructors did not do that! they just did it with no warning. b) their dark pants make it hard to see how they're knees are bending, if at all, in order to do the movement properly. c) the camara keeps moving and filming their faces instead of their feet or having a full body shot. d) they don't do enough reps of some of the movements, so once you get it it's too late, time to move on to something else you probably won't get.
2) I agree with other reviewers when they said that the final chapter, the improv, is a waste of time. I can hardly follow the 'instructed' part, how am I just going to wing it?
3) I found the Jive dancing to be the easiest to follow of all, but what ruined it for me was their constant comments. "that burns" "oh wow, no breather?" "holy crap!" (i'm not kidding you, they actually said that!) - this exercise will get your heart rate up, but unless you're really out of shape, there's no burning sensation.
4) Not much of a work out. As i mentioned earlier, I thought of turning this off many times, not only because it was frustrating trying to follow, but also because I was not getting a work out at all. I wasn't expecting to sweat as much as i do when i run, but i expected SOME heavy breathing or at least sweating. neither happend. I feel like I wasted 50 minutes.
I'm gonna give this video another chance, maybe once i learn the steps i will be able to follow and be able to work the right muscles instead of trying to keep up, but you'll probably see this for sale here pretty soon.

Horribly executed dance and workout videoSep 09, 2009 This would actually be a fun and engaging workout if you could see what the dancers were doing. Every single time they start a new move, the camera gives you a closeup of the instructor's upper body so that you can't see most of what the instructor is doing. It also skips from the instructor to the other dancers so quickly, it takes several viewings to catch each move. The director and cameraperson apparently didn't understand the difference between shooting a performance and shooting an instructional video.
I took dance for several years when I was younger and still consider myself a passable dancer. I quickly grew so frustrated with this video on first viewing that it hit the Goodwill pile before I'd even finished the entire routine. Unless you're a regular DWTS viewer and already know all the dances by heart, skip this video.
